China: day 3

, , No Comments

such lazy pigs
cousin, aunt and grandma all went out and came back before we woke up
(sidenote: it's really windy right now)
first night in the bunk bed and it's a far cry from the sofa (with the sofa being more comfortable) but still not too bad

first order of business today was to get a sim card for the mobile and succeeded in calling cousin once before it stuffed up
still working on it now...

then it was yumcha
had really good lau sha bao (running sand bun) at the place we had dinner the first night

after lunch, me and mum went off for a 10RMB shampoo and blowdry (massage included)
doing my part to stimulate the economy, but still feels a bit weird sometimes to pay someone the equivalent of <$2 to do so much.
the blowdryer-er blew my hair into a side part, so that you have full access to my forehead
pretty jarring and like hey there!

then mum, isaac, cousin and i caught the bus to UPDOWN9 for shopping
mum left us to meet up with elayne's parents and the rest of us shopped around
littlebro ended up spending a few hundred dollars looooooooooool
i got a sweater and a coat, not that much but not empty handed - so i'm happy either way
we ate as we shopped - takoyaki, octopus on a stick, jasmine milk tea with pearls, dried squid, etc, etc, etc

most important thing was seung pei lai (double skin milk)
which is like a milk custard, kind of like pannacotta. i'd been looking forward to eating it since we finalised our flights
and we went to the place where it all began, so i might've had high expectations
but it ended up being too sweet for me
i could only finish half of my hot one
isaac ate his cold one, half of mine, and a third of cousin's red bean one.
littlebro has been HECTIC since we've come back. he eats sooooooooooo much.
so cute.

after that, we walked a bit more, ate a bit more
before we got called back for dinner
we caught the subway and had to change at an intersection. coincidentally, everyone was getting off work and THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE. IT WAS OMGOSH SO MANY PEOPLE. you're supposed to walk out one way and then people enter through another. when i entered the train, i almost got pushed out. lol.
what a sight!

ate dinner at home, with soup and roast duck and all that good stuff.
so lazy~
i can feel a cold change and i wanna just stay in
:P

should really make a list of things i want to buy in case i end up forgetting
anyway, shower time!
each time i shower, i'm grateful that it's like the hostel shower at franzjosef with tile flowers and the toilet off to one side
instead of showering on top of the toilet
so so very grateful.

this trip has been exceeding expectations so far.
still feeling apprehensive about the ice age that will be beijing though...
